Quality Assessed Visitor Attraction
Hardy's Birthplace Visitor Centre is full of cultural and natural heritage. Visitors can wander through an ancient woodland, walk on the open landscape of a bronze age created heathland habitat, with its own herd of Dartmoor ponies or march along a Roman Road. Thorncombe wood captivates guests and keeps them discovering more and with each visit. The wonders of the natural world as used by Thomas Hardy in his poetry and novels can be seen in the landscape and species still present on the site. Visit the cottage in which he was born, owned by National Trust (advance bookings only) and visit the centre with its independent café, retail area, toilets and information areas.
