Accredited Attraction
Opened in 1977 and set in the beautiful grounds and gardens of a 500-acre, 18th-century country estate, the Yorkshire Sculpture Park is one of the world’s leading open-air galleries of modern sculpture – and Yorkshire’s artistic jewel. There’s always something new to see with temporary exhibitions throughout the year in five magnificent galleries. The visitor centre provides useful all-weather facilities, including a good restaurant, an audio-visual auditorium, a coffee bar and the ubiquitous shop. Even for those who don’t ‘get’ the art on offer, the park is fantastic to walk around, with excellent vistas of the valley, lakes, estate buildings and bridges – and it’s all free (though you’ll pay for the car park). You can even take your dog on the outdoor cultural tour. Photo credits: YSP Centre - Marc Atkins; sculptures - Jonty Wilde.
